In English, students learned about what makes slogans effective. They analyzed several slogans and determined characteristics that they had in common. Then, students were placed into groups of three and created a poster with an unique slogan for a product or service that they created. Students were to take into consideration the characteristics of a good slogan as well as effective presentational devices.

In Science, students continued to learn about different types of energy. The focus of this week was thermal energy. To start off the topic, students did a brief experiment where they put an equal amount of food coloring into different temperatures of water: warm, room temperature, and cool. They were to see in which temperature of water would the food coloring disperse the quickest. The groups determined that the food dye dispersed the quickest in warm water. So, we discussed the connection to thermal energy.

In Social Studies, we discussed the different site factors that determines the location of a settlement, Beforehand, each table group was given four pictures of locations with varying characteristics. Students discussed which location they thought would be the best site to establish a settlement and why. Based on their reasoning, we came up with a list of important site factors. We talked about those factors as well as a few that they overlooked. Then, based upon this list of site factors, students re-evaluated whether they would still settle at the same site and why.
